So if you missed it in my April newsletter, I announced that I’m going “back to school” to become a certified Life Coach. This is something that I’ve been thinking about for quite a while so I’m excited to finally have this goal come to fruition!
What is a Life Coach?
I know a lot of you are probably wondering, “what is a life coach exactly?” When you do a search of Google, you’ll come across the definition: “A person who counsels and encourages clients on matters having to do with careers or personal challenges.” and while that’s true, that’s kind of just the tip of the iceberg. I think a more accurate definition of it would be,
“Someone who can help you get perspective on your life and your mind.”
How does it compare to a therapist?
The biggest difference between therapy + coaching is that therapy tends to be more past focused, helping you through mental health issues, exploring your history, reiterating a past story to possibly understand your current thoughts about it, whereas coaching focuses on helping you create the change that is going to take your life from just good to freakin’ awesome. It’s much more future-focused.
How has life coaching changed my life?
Back in the fall of 2019, I was feeling like life had thrown me a hard blow with what I felt was a very difficult situation, and in my eyes at the time, a very difficult client. I was feeling overwhelmed, frustrated, anxious, and fearful I would handle the situation incorrectly. My perfectionist self was afraid I would make the wrong decisions. Then I started listening to The Life Coach School podcast with Brooke Castillo and it literally changed my life. Instead of fearing that my circumstances were controlling my life, I quickly realized that I had the ability to direct the course of my life with my own thoughts. I started binging her podcast the next few months and then ultimately decided to join her online program called Self Coaching Scholars at the beginning of 2020 to really learn how to apply all the knowledge I’d gained and to also have the ability to talk weekly with my own life coaches. And boy was investing in my brain + mindset during this time the best decision ever because, as we all know, the pandemic hit and that challenged me more than ever with being quarantined by myself, not able to work for a few months, and so many other things.
Life coaching helped me to process my emotions + thoughts so instead of hindering me, I was able to propel forward in my life, career, and relationships. Surprisingly, while I made quite an investment into training my brain that year, I tripled that investment with my income. Yup…even with a pandemic, I was able to increase my salary, improve my relationships, learn to manage my time better, lose weight, and it gave me the drive to live a way better life.
Why do I want to become certified as a life coach?
I’ve started to realize over the past 13+ years as a boudoir photographer, one of the things I loved most was being able to help empower women and show them how strong + beautiful they truly are. While I love creating the art (photos) with these sessions, I think I enjoy the experience I create for these women much more. I see how it is oftentimes a stepping stone for many women. It’s something that pushes them past their current comfort zone and it allows them to grow into a much stronger and braver woman who is willing to take on more challenges in her life. I want to work EVEN MORE with women and helping y’all to achieve those big, scary goals. I want to help those of you who can relate to that perfectionist mindset (everything has to be “just right” before you do something), and help you get out of your own.damn.way and start living your dream life!
Why do you need a life coach?
If you feel like you always have to get your ducks in a row + everything has to be perfect before you make that big decision and you are constantly stuck in indecision, life coaching is for you.
