As someone that has had a handful of breast cancer survivor friends (and as someone that has also walked the Susan G Komen 3-Day Walk), I always feel a bit of an extra tug at my heartstrings to have a client inquire with me about doing a pre or post-mastectomy boudoir shoot.
So when the lovely Miss J reached out to me about doing a shoot. I was 100% game! Cancer can take such a toll on a woman both physically + mentally, so to be able to do such an empowering experience for her to feel appreciative of her body + who she is, is the best feeling ever.
When I asked this gorgeous babe why she wanted to do a boudoir shoot, and what it means to her, she replied with this:
Five years ago I had my mastectomy and had one breast and a breast form for over a year. I had my initial reconstructive surgery in April 2017 and afterward felt horrible about myself- my breasts were uneven- scaring was horrible and I had to start treatments that put me through menopause. Soon after I physically recovered from that I went through a divorce and was at an all time low. I went to New Orleans to a surgery center that specializes in breast reconstruction after cancer. I had two more surgeries to repair past damage and finally feel “whole” again- physically. Boudoir has been something I have considered for a couple years now. I feel it will be an empowering experience. I have no nipples and tons of scarring still- but am starting to feel more feminine than ever. I feel this experience will allow me to see myself in a different light- as a feminine , sexy and empowered female. I have been told this about myself – but have yet to see it. I know it will not make “everything better”- but will be an experience that I will always have and be able to look at.
I mean, how can you NOT love that response?! Can we say, dream client?! I truly hope that EVERY woman that has to endure the experience of a mastectomy, gets the opportunity to do a boudoir session as her body is beautiful + amazing + perfect for going through all that it has been through. These women are true heroes in my book.
So without further ado, here are some of my favorites from my session with the stunning Miss J! Enjoy!
