A perk of doing what you really love to do is that sometimes you get to mentor others who love it just as much.
It’s crazy to think that I’ve been photographing boudoir for just over a decade! Man time sure does fly when you are having fun! Haha. It started when my co-worker at the time asked if I’d do some sexy photos for her to give to her hubby to celebrate their 5th wedding anniversary. I was definitely nervous with that first session and we both may have had a fair share of wine that afternoon to calm our nerves, but the results of that first session trickled into hundreds of more over the decade and my love for helping women feel amazing in their own skin was such a high!
When you love what you do, I feel it definitely radiates through in your work. And because of this, I’ve had people from time to time ask me questions about how I do what I do, and to show them my ways and I’ve always happily obliged. But then it started to get more frequent and I realized I had possibly a gift that I could share with more than just my clients but with other photographers that wanted to empower women through these intimate sessions as well. At first, I kind of shied away because I didn’t think I could be a good teacher. I’m also very much an introvert. So while I saw friends getting up and doing lectures/workshops, I didn’t think I could ever do that. But then came the realization that I could offer one-on-one mentoring to help others grow their business and not have to be un in front of a crowd – it was a winning situation for me! And a winning situation for the mentee as they get a more specialized educational experience based specifically on their needs. Win, win!
One of the options I offer with my mentoring is to do both a classroom portion and then follow up with a hands-on experience photographing a session alongside me. For this particular mentoring experience shown below, I got to work with Kristi of KAB Photography. She is amazing with her macro work, but was thinking about venturing out more into portraiture…specifically female portraits. So after we chatted for a while on how to grow her portrait business, we did a boudoir session with the lovely Miss A. Here are some of my favorites from the experience along with a few “behind the scenes” shots as Kristi worked her magic with our beautiful model! Such a fun experience!
If you think you’d be interested in some mentoring – whether with boudoir photography or any other aspect of the photography industry (ie, composition, editing, business marketing, etc), feel free to contact me and I can give you all the details!
